Downlights

This type of light is either fully or semi recessed into the ceiling which requires a hole to be cut. With Downlights in a bathroom make sure they are electrically rated to at least IP44 rated. More commonly found with energy saving LED lamps the GU10 fitting is a standard fitting. You can choose warm (yellow tint colour), cool (blue tint colour) or daylight (natural colour). The bezel (round trim) can come in chrome , white, satin chrome (other finishes are available). Fire rated models protect the ceiling from fire after a hole has been cut to hold a new light fitting.

Ceiling Lights & Spotlights

This group of lights fix directly to the ceiling and are surface mounted usually only requiring just the electrical cable to come through. Also with ceiling lights in a bathroom make sure they are electrically rated to at least IP44 rated. They are more commonly found with energy saving LED lamps which should require replacing less frequently. You can sometimes pick between the temperature colours of warm (yellow tint colour), cool (blue tint colour) or daylight (natural colour). Some ceiling lights are sealed units with a shade on the bottom side that protrude from the ceiling. Spotlights are usually in a cluster and are mounted onto a plate and commonly can be tilted to adjust where the light falls. If they are a pendant than the light will have a wire hanging down.

Wall Lights

Wall lights are surface mounted but designed to go on a wall - either above/either side of a mirror for task lighting or for general lighting on a wall space. With these bathroom lights make sure they are electrically rated to at least IP44 rated. More commonly found with energy saving LED lamps which should require replacing less frequently. You can choose different lamps to give you warm (yellow tint colour), cool (blue tint colour) or daylight (natural colour). Different finishes are available and the shades vary from glass, metal and even fabric to give you a superb selection to make a beautiful and stylish room.

Mood Lighting

This diverse type of lighting can be easily overlooked but can make all the difference to giving a spa like finish to the bathroom. It is normally not task lighting and is indirect so it is more atmospheric and relaxing. You can be creative as you like with these lights but if they are fitted in showering or bathing spaces then you can need up to IP67 rating. You can sometimes pick between the temperature colours of warm (yellow tint colour), cool (blue tint colour) or daylight (natural colour) and even colour changing lights. They can vary between small round LED spotlights and adhesive LED ribbon strips that you fit into recessed boxes, bath panels and underneath furniture and if set up on a different lighting circuit to the ceiling lights it can give a perfect alternative lighting option to create a calm sanctuary. Unwind with a soothing bath or ease yourself into the day with a shower in a room with alternative lighting setup. Why not remove the need for finding a lightswitch in the dark and blinding yourself by including Infrared sensors in the ceiling to operate this gentle light source.
